The first option for DIY makeup remover is oil.

There are many different types of oil that will clean and moisturize your skin incredibly well: coconut oil, jojoba oil, argan oil, olive oil, and sweet almond oil can all be used safely as makeup remover.

You can also mix these oils with different ingredients to make more a specialized product. For example, you can mix a teaspoon of castile soap with a teaspoon of coconut oil and 10 to 12 drops of lavender essential oil for a cleanser that is incredible for sensitive skin and smells absolutely amazing.

aloe vera

Another great option for a DIY makeup remover is aloe vera. The great thing about this option is that you can grow it yourself at home, making it an even cheaper choice for skin care.

To use aloe vera as a skin care option, there are a few steps you should take.

Combine equal parts of aloe vera gel and raw honey in a small container. Then add two tablespoons of your favorite type of oil for every cup of cleanser. After that, use your immersion blender to combine the ingredients into a paste.

Make sure to store the substance in an airtight container, and keep it in the refrigerator if it contains fresh aloe vera that is free of preservatives.

3. Natural Exfoliator

Ground English Walnut Shells

You can also make a natural exfoliating scrub, which is a really great way to exfoliate your skin while getting rid of dirt, oil, and makeup. This one will also serve as a good moisturizer too.

The exfoliating ingredient in this natural recipe is ground walnut shells, which is natural and cheap.

For this product, you will need ¼ cup of ground walnut shells, ¼ cup calendula oil, 2.5 tablespoons of aloe vera gel, 1 tablespoon of emulsifying wax, 1 teaspoon of castile soap, and 10 drops of lavender essential oil.

This is a rather strong exfoliator, so it may not be the perfect choice for more sensitive skin.

To make this scrub, combine the walnut shells and castile soap in a small bowl and set them aside. Then combine calendula oil with the wax in a small pot and heat over low heat until melted. In a separate pot, warm the aloe vera gel for a minute, then add it to the wax and oil mixture to create an emulsion.

Then mix the emulsion to the walnut mixture, and add in the essential oil drops. Stir everything together one final time and then store the mixture in an airtight jar.

To use on your skin, massage about half of a teaspoon over your skin to clean it, then rinse it off with lukewarm water.

4. Witch Hazel

witch hazel

Witch Hazel is another fantastic option for your skin.

This substance is made out of witch hazel shrub, and is basically an herb extract or hydrosol. In the past, it has been typically used for skin problems and has been embraced by the beauty industry for decades.

It is a wonderful multi-purpose remedy, as it helps with many different skin conditions. Witch hazel is excellent for soothing dry skin, assists with itching, spot-treating acne, and removing your makeup.

To use witch hazel as a DIY makeup remover, you have the choice to use it by itself or diluted 50/50 by water. You should soak either the corner of a washcloth or a makeup pad made of cotton to remove makeup in a circular motion.

5. Cold Cream Cleanser

cold cream

If you prefer a cold cream for your skin care routine, this is the option for you.

You will need 3 tablespoons of the oil of your choice, 2 tablespoons of distilled water, ½ teaspoon of borax, ½ ounce of grated beeswax, and 12 drops of your favorite essential oil. On top of that, you should have two pots, and a bowl that will fit into one of the pots as well.

First, fill your double boiler with water and bring it to a boil. Place the beeswax into the bowl going into the pot, and add the three tablespoons of oil. Then melt them together.

In the other pot, add the water and borax and turn it on low heat. Once it is melted together, remove both pots from the stove and mix the contents of both together. Whisk them together gently and add in the essential oil. As the mixture cools, it will thicken into cream.

Place it into a clean jar with a wide mouth, and use as you please.
